Upcoming Workshops in Oberlin and Around the World
Yoga Nidra: Sunday, February 25; 2:00-3:00 PM $10 ($8 students)
Yoga Nidra is a technique of guided sensory awareness. It
utilizes and develops a state of restful alertness that bypasses ingrained
habits and unconscious, self-imposed restrictions. Many people find that the
practice of Yoga Nidra creates an embodied state that is simultaneously calm
and energized. On a deeper level it offers profound insight regarding the
nature of the self.

Ayurveda: Saturday, March 3; 2:00-4:00 PM $15 ($10 Students)
Ayurveda is the
traditional healing system of India. As
the popularity of yoga has grown in America increasing attention has been given
to Ayurveda as it offers viable ways to address many of the ills that afflict
modern society. While Ayurveda involves a comprehensive approach to healing,
the role of diet to health is crucial to understanding its basic premises.
Therefore we will explore Ayurveda from the perspective of diet. The class will
introduce concepts such as dosha (constitution), agni (physiological fire) and ama (congestion) with an eye toward the interplay and relationship of the whole
system.

Sinus Health: Saturday, March 10; 2:00-4:00 PM $15 ($10 Students)
Many
people suffer from discomfort and congestion in the nasal sinuses. Colds,
allergies and sinus infections are three of the most common conditions that
affect the nasal area. Yoga and Ayurveda (the traditional healing system of
India) offer many tools to manage, minimize and in some cases eliminate the
suffering that results from sinus problems. In this workshop we will lean
about asanas (yoga poses) that are
helpful in clearing the sinuses. We will also explore the relationship of diet
to nasal congestion and we will learn about the ancient technique of neti (nasal irrigation).

Alexander Technique: Saturday, March 17; 3:00-4:30 PM $12 ($8 Students)
Would you like to move more easily and enjoyably, improve
coordination, and prevent injury from repeated movements? The Alexander
Technique is a method of body awareness that supports easy, fluid movement and
relieves aches and pains caused by unconstructive habits. An Alexander
Technique teacher guides the student with gentle hands-on contact, and verbal
cues about how to experience greater ease in the body.
Instructor: Jim Froelich is a certified teaching member of Alexander Technique International
(ATI). For more information email jimf@bright.net.
Yoga and Sleep: Sunday, March 18; 2:00-4:00 PM~$15 ($10 Students)
Lack of sleep is a hidden epidemic. Insomnia and other sleep
disorders have an insidious effect on the body and the mind. Yoga offers a
rich array of practices that can dismantle patterns of sleeplessness: the
satisfying work of active postures is helpful in encouraging deep sleep, while
restorative postures and breath practices can teach us to be still and to
accept rest. Moreover, yoga’s approach to the mind and consciousness offers a
sophisticated perspective for disentangling the disruptive habits and
tendencies that prevent people from sleeping. All are welcome.
